Los Angeles Community Action Network
The original page described resident-led organizing in Skid Row and the early relationship between LA CAN and LACEH&H.
Residents organizing for a voice
The April 2003 capture describes LA CAN’s beginnings on January 2, 1999, when 25 downtown residents came together to address problems in their community. It presents LACEH&H as an early organizational base for LA CAN and related organizing efforts.
The page discusses leadership training, resident participation, newsletters, access to public bathrooms, and civil-rights organizing. Its account treats people experiencing poverty as organizers and decision-makers, rather than only recipients of services.
A separate organization today
LA CAN maintains its own website and describes work with low-income and unhoused residents in Downtown and South Central Los Angeles.
