Four stations extended the A Line east
Metro opened its nine-mile A Line extension between Azusa and Pomona at noon on September 19, 2025. The new stations were Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne/Fairplex and Pomona North. At opening, Metro said the extension added connections to the Foothill Cities and beyond. [1]
The stations linked the rail line with nearby destinations and Foothill Transit routes. Glendora Station is near Glendora Village and served by Line 284. San Dimas Station is in downtown San Dimas, with Lines 295 and 492. La Verne/Fairplex is across Arrow Highway from Fairplex and adjacent to the University of La Verne and Old Town La Verne; Lines 197, 291 and 492 serve it. [1]

Pomona North added a Metrolink transfer
At Pomona North, A Line riders can transfer to Metrolink’s San Bernardino Line, which runs between Union Station in downtown Los Angeles and downtown San Bernardino. The new A Line platform is just north of Metrolink’s platform. Foothill Transit Lines 291 and 492 also serve Pomona North; Line 291 on Garey Avenue connects with destinations including Pomona Valley Medical Center and downtown Pomona. [1]
Metro’s opening report also listed colleges reachable through the A Line and connecting transit, including the University of La Verne, Cal Poly Pomona, Mt. San Antonio College, Citrus College, Azusa Pacific University, Pasadena City College and the Claremont Colleges. The connections differ by campus: some are near a station, while others require a bus, shuttle or Metrolink transfer. [1]
Opening fares and travel estimates were time-specific
Metro offered free rides on its rail, bus, bike and Micro systems from 4 a.m. Friday, September 19, through 3 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2025. The opening report also gave estimated rides from Pomona North: about 12 minutes to Glendora, 40 minutes to Old Pasadena and 64 minutes to Union Station. Those estimates appeared in the 2025 opening information and are not current schedule guarantees. [1]
For households without a car, a rail extension with local bus and rail connections can add another way to reach schools, medical destinations and other places. Metro’s opening report describes the stations and connections, but does not quantify household savings, time saved, job access or ridership outcomes. [1]
Using transit information for a visit
The extension expanded rail access across the Foothill Cities, while connecting buses and Metrolink provide additional links from the four stations. The listed travel estimates and free-fare period were tied to the September 2025 opening; current travel planning requires current schedule information. [1]
